zoltar.jpg[Daily post from itzbig] Old-school recruiting can be bad for business

These kids today, what with their Twitter and their expectations of gracious recruiting. How do they expect to find work with their new attitudes and adoption of cutting-edge technology. Well, if you’re not recruiting members of Generations X and Y with their specialized needs in mind, the answer may be that they don’t expect to find work through you.

StlRecruiting: Third Party Recruiters Are Parasites?

“This attitude exists in many job-seekers, but it’s often replaced with “you’re a saint, you’re a lifesaver, you’re a godsend” when you find the same person a job at a higher salary when they were about to dip into savings.”

Systematic HR: HR Versus Finance – Influence, Power, and a Seat at the Table Part 1

“I completely agree that with today’s shift to a knowledge economy, the value of human capital (talent) versus the value of other capital is clearly higher. […] However, if the real power exists in execution, then HR should have a stronger partnership with the business than it currently does.”

Susan Strayer: The Salary Gender Disparity is Back

“Companies usually do systemic salary surveys and banding to determine jobs. Thus, the issue has to be deeper than we imagined. Either companies are still subconsciously treating women differently, or there are different performance measures and rewards.”

YourHRGuy: Start keeping track of your accomplishments today

“If you plan on looking for a job in the next five years, having a decent record of your accomplishments makes the job of selling yourself a lot easier. Whenever you look over just a few months of well documented accomplishments, it is going to be hard to not sell yourself!”

College Recruiter: Got Body Piercings? You’re a Diverse Candidate!

Camille’s slide showed that many of the candidates answered that they are diverse because they have body modifications such as tattoos and piercing. Wow. I had no idea that anyone would consider themselves to be diverse because they have “mother” tattooed on their arm.
